Tomorrow's Rugby Stars: Atlantis Wins U18 Bracket at Rugbytown 7s
The Atlantis Rugby U18 boys emerged victorious in the Serevi Rugbytown 7s, proving their mettle in tough pool play and vanquishing an excellent Utah Lions team for the title. As rugby becomes more prominent across the USA, wins like these take on extra meaning for the emerging generation of American rugby players!
The boys from Atlantis went up against top-notch international competition in the first-ever boys high school bracket at Serevi, an annual tournament (Aug. 14-16 this year) in Glendale, Colo.'s Infinity Rugby Park sports complex. In addition to Atlantis, the teams were: Utah Lions, Upright Rugby Rogues (Canada), Rocky Mountain Rebels, Atavus All-Stars, Utah Cannibals and the Glendale Raptors Academy.
Atlantis Winning Try vs Utah
Atlantis went 4-0 in pool play action on Friday, including wins over two teams that finished the day 3-1 (the Rogues and Lions). They punched their ticket to the final with a win over the Rocky Mountain Rebels on Saturday morning.
The Utah Lions defeated the Rogues, setting up the final match with Atlantis.
In the championship game, the teams traded tries for a 14-12 Lions lead at the half. Resisting intense pressure, Atlantis overcame a 24-26 deficit with 30 seconds left to secure the 31-26 win. Mike Dabulas scored the winning try with no time left, grabbing a pass under duress from Nick Skalka and scooting across the line to victory.
These boys definitely deserve Royall Acclaim, embodying the spirit behind Royall Rugby!
